Application introduction:WDS (Wireless Distribution System) provides bridge traffic between two LANs though the air and extends the coverage range of a WLAN.
Notice:
Ø Both routers must have the same channel set.
Ø Both routers must be set to the same band 2.4G or 5G.This article takes 2.4G as an example.
The first router
STEP-1: Connect your computer to the router
1-1. Connect your computer to the router by cable or wireless, then login the router by entering http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar of your browser.
Note: The default IP address of TOTOLINK router is 192.168.1.1, the default Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0. If you can't log in, Please restore factory settings.
1-2. Please click Setup Tool icon to enter the router’s setting interface.
1-3. Please login to the Web Setup interface (the default user name and password is admin).
STEP-2:
Click Advanced Setup->Wireless->Wireless Setup on the navigation bar on the left.
STEP-3:
Enter the information show below and then click Apply button for saving modification.
--SSID: Network name (avoid setting the same name with each other)
--Channel: Select by your environment (e.g. 11)
--Encryption: WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK+AES
--Encryption key: Type in eight to sixty-three letters(a~z) or numbers (0~9)
STEP-4:
Click Advanced setup->Wireless->WDS Setup, then click [AP Scan] to choose SSID of Secondary Router.
The second router
STEP-1:
Connect your computer to the second router, the first step is the same as the first router.
STEP-2:
Click Advanced setup->Wireless->WDS Setup on the left.
STEP-3:
Click [AP Scan] and find the SSID of the first router, and then click Add button.The AP’s information will be displayed next as the picture show.
STEP-4:
Enter Wireless Setup interface. Enter the SSID different from the first router, and the same channel、encryption type and password with the first router.
STEP-5:
Click Advanced Setup->Network->LAN/DHCP Server on the navigation bar on the left.
STEP-6:
Skip to STEP-6 if the router is in the same LAN with Primary Router but different IP Address.
6-1. Change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.X(X must be different from the first one), and then click Apply& Restart button.
6-2. Login the router’s setting interface again.
STEP-7:
Stop DHCP Service in the LAN/DHCP setup interface by selecting stop as the image show.
